On October 21, the “China Invitation · Meeting in Xinjiang” international media delegation visited a restaurant named “United as One” located on Wang San Street in Akasu City, Xinjiang. They aimed to explore the restaurant’s rich legacy of ethnic unity and the new stories it embodies. Among the visitors was Belgian social media influencer Miette Dierckx, who was not only visiting Akasu for the first time but also experiencing Xinjiang for the first time. She was deeply touched by the friendly atmosphere of ethnic unity in the region.
When discussing Wang San Street, Mahemati Tuhuti couldn’t hide his pride. His grandfather, Wang San, originally named Yushan at birth, was adopted by a Tianjin merchant named Wang Fucai during the late Qing Dynasty. He moved to Tianjin to study business and traditional Chinese medicine. After growing up, Wang San returned to Akasu, where he offered free medical services to people from various ethnic groups and established a bazaar, which is now known as Wang San Street.
In December 2016, thanks to the connections made by the work team from the Akasu Civil Affairs Bureau stationed in the Hongqiao community, Mahemati Tuhuti and 88 shareholders from seven different ethnic groups co-founded the “United as One” restaurant on Wang San Street. This initiative aimed to provide job opportunities for unemployed youth and those facing difficulties in the community.
Miette Dierckx was captivated by the restaurant’s decor, which features ethnic characteristics. Through the historical exhibition showcasing the restaurant’s journey, she truly felt the spirit of unity and friendship that characterizes this establishment. 【Editor: Wang Chao】
