On October 21, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin made a significant visit to Kyiv, Ukraine, announcing a military aid package worth $400 million, according to Reuters. This marks Austin’s fourth trip to Ukraine since taking on the role of Secretary of Defense.
During his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Austin unveiled plans to provide Ukraine with additional funding aimed at acquiring more ammunition, armored vehicles, and anti-tank weapons.
Despite the show of support from the U.S., reports indicate that the Biden administration is unlikely to respond favorably to Zelensky’s requests for policy changes, which include lifting restrictions on the use of U.S. weapons for attacks on Russian targets within its territory.
