On October 25, 2024, the “Knowledge Property Services Nationwide Tour” dedicated to patent transformation and cross-regional collaboration commenced, marking the sixth annual Patent Conference for universities and the second Intellectual Property Supply and Demand Matchmaking Conference in Chengdu, Sichuan. This significant event attracted 41 universities and research institutions, 153 investment, financing, and service organizations, along with enterprises, drawing over 500 participants.
During the event, it was announced that a total of 1,422 high-value intellectual property results were collected from universities and research institutes nationwide, including 485 projects for patent open licensing. Additionally, 533 intellectual property needs from innovative entities were identified. The conference recorded contract signings for patent transaction and investment projects totaling approximately 592.9 million yuan, and it uncovered intentions and actual transactions of patent results valued at 4.308 billion yuan, setting a new record for the annual patent conference.
The Chengdu government released an opportunity list highlighting the key industries for intellectual property strengthening and efficiency enhancement, focusing on sectors like low-altitude economy and hydrogen energy. A representative from the Chengdu Smart Terminal Industry Intellectual Property Empowerment Center stated, “We will fully leverage the published opportunity list to accurately align university technological advancements with enterprise needs, turning our service advantages into industry strengths.”
Currently, Chengdu boasts over 70 universities that have cataloged 51,000 patents from universities and research institutions, with more than 33,000 patents added to the database. Furthermore, they have assisted over 5,400 local enterprises in participating in the evaluation of these existing patents.
The event also witnessed the awarding of the top three winners of the Tianfu Zhuge Cup 2024 High-Value Patent Competition and the establishment of the Chengdu Overseas Intellectual Property Protection Alliance. Additionally, it featured the signing of various patent transaction agreements, investment collaborations, and partnerships between universities and enterprises for knowledge transfer.
The newly formed protection alliance, supported by the existing team from Chengdu High-tech Zone’s Overseas Intellectual Property Services Alliance, is set to enhance Chengdu’s capacity to assist in intellectual property rights protection during foreign economic activities and to facilitate collaboration. This initiative aims to strengthen the overseas risk resilience of export-oriented enterprises.
Looking ahead, the protection alliance will focus on building overseas intellectual property protection frameworks, optimizing enforcement pathways, and promoting collaboration in the field of intellectual property, providing essential support for enterprises venturing abroad and facilitating incoming investments.
