He revealed that his wife, Paris, suffered a miscarriage six months into her pregnancy, and he learned of this heartbreaking news just the night before the fight in May.
Fury emphasized that while the loss of their child was devastating, it should not overshadow Usyk’s victory in the ring. “She lost the baby on the Friday before the fight, which was pretty tough for me,” he shared.
Reflecting on the situation, Fury admitted, “I’m not making excuses, but it’s not a small miscarriage. You have to physically give birth to a stillborn child on your own while your husband is in another country. I couldn’t be there for her in that moment, and that’s hard for me. I’ve been with her for so long, and it’s difficult that I couldn’t support her.”
In an emotional moment before a press conference in London with Usyk, he acknowledged the challenge of facing such news. “When she told me she couldn’t come over, I knew something was wrong. She usually comes for fight week, but she had high blood pressure. I asked what was up, but she wouldn’t tell me, so I had an idea.”
Fury continued, “I said to my brother, ‘She’s lost that baby.’ She never confirmed it, but deep down, I knew. When I returned and got the heartbreaking confirmation, it was painful to realize she had kept it to herself.”
He also mentioned that Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, offered to arrange a private jet for Paris, along with a doctor, to ensure her safety. “When I found out she couldn’t fly, I knew it was serious,” Fury said.
Discussing the ordeal his wife faced, he expressed, “Going through that alone isn’t good for anyone.”
Despite the tragedy, Fury was clear that his personal loss should not be an excuse for his loss to Usyk. “It’s not an excuse. I’m a man of honor, and when I’m in the ring, I have to focus entirely on the fight. Nothing outside of that matters during the match; you process everything else afterward.”
A visibly emotional Fury, who has seven children with Paris, confirmed they lost a little boy during the miscarriage. “We’ve faced this before; it happens. Will we have more kids? I’m not sure if she’s back to normal yet. It’s a difficult process. But enough of this somber talk; I won’t hold back tears.”
