Two suspects pretending to be Chavas broke into mansion and robbed it, killing the owner of the house in Michigan_1

On October 11th, a tragic home invasion and murder occurred in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. Surveillance footage revealed two suspects dressed in gas company uniforms during the incident, which is now being investigated by local authorities.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office announced on October 14th that they had arrested one of the suspects, identified as 37-year-old Carlos Jose Hernandez, in Louisiana. He faces murder charges, and law enforcement is working to extradite him back to Michigan for trial. A second suspect was captured on the 14th, although their identity has not been released yet.

Authorities were alerted when they discovered the body of 72-year-old Hussein Murray in the basement of his Rochester Hills home. His wife had been bound and gagged but managed to escape and call 911. The cause of Murray’s death remains unclear, with officials stating, “Due to the grisly nature of the scene, it is difficult to determine if he was shot or bludgeoned to death.”

According to Murray’s wife, the suspects had previously visited their home the day before, claiming to inspect for a gas leak. Mr. Murray had not allowed them inside. On the day of the murder, however, he permitted them entry, leading them to the basement under the pretense of locating the supposed gas leak.

After the suspects returned from the basement, Murray was nowhere to be found. They then restrained his wife and covered her mouth. Initially, she believed her husband might have been taken hostage.

The sheriff’s office released security camera footage showing the two suspects wearing gas company uniforms, masks, and holding clipboards while claiming, “We are DTE Energy employees here to check for a gas leak.”

In response to the incident, DTE urged its customers to be cautious of individuals impersonating their employees. They recommended that if someone shows up at a residence or business claiming to be from DTE, customers should request identification with a name and photo. If the individual refuses to show ID, customers should deny them entry. They also advised to call 911 if the person behaves suspiciously.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard described Mr. Murray as “a caring individual, a successful businessman, and someone who was deeply concerned about his neighborhood and community.”
