The U.S. Navy’s EA-18G electronic fighter plane -crash during routine training- and the whereabouts of 2 people on board are unknown

On the evening of October 15, the U.S. Navy announced that an EA-18G Growler electronic attack aircraft crashed during a routine training exercise. Two personnel onboard are currently missing, prompting active search efforts in the area east of Mount Rainier in Washington State.

According to NBC News, the EA-18G, part of the F/A-18 aircraft family, was participating in standard flight training when the incident occurred. As of 7 PM that night, the fate of the two crew members remained unknown.

The search operations involve a Navy MH-60S helicopter launched from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, located north of Seattle. The aircraft belongs to Electronic Attack Squadron 130 (VAQ-130), known by its nickname “Zappers.” The Navy has indicated that this squadron is the oldest electronic warfare unit in its history.
