The first ship transporting new energy vehicles in the Qiongzhou Strait successfully docked

On October 8, during a press briefing, it was announced that the “Luyuan No.1,” the first flat cargo ship specially designed for transporting new energy vehicles, successfully docked at Xu Wensha Haian New Port. This achievement was supervised by the Guangdong Zhanjiang Maritime Safety Administration’s vessel, “Hai Xun 0927,” marking a significant milestone for the roll-on/roll-off transport route across the Qiongzhou Strait.

With a gross tonnage of 6,731 and a net tonnage of 3,769, the “Luyuan No.1” measures 125.8 meters in length and 28 meters in width. When fully loaded, this single-deck cargo ship can carry over 160 new energy vehicles in one trip, a 60% increase in capacity compared to existing passenger and vehicle ferries. The ship is set to operate on the route from Zhanjiang Haian New Port to Haikou Xiuying Port, providing a much-needed maritime transportation solution for new energy vehicles and helping to ease congestion during peak transport times across the strait.

For its trial docking, the “Luyuan No.1” departed from Xiuying Port, crossed the Qiongzhou Strait, and entered the Haian New Port basin, where it skillfully turned and secured its position at the dock using a bow-to-bow approach. Upon successfully docking, the vessel deployed its vehicle ramp to facilitate the loading and unloading of vehicles. The entire process was carried out with safety as a top priority, ensuring that navigation conditions were appropriate and that the ship’s essential equipment was functioning properly.

To ensure a safe trial docking, Zhanjiang maritime enforcement personnel were on board “Hai Xun 0927” and arrived early to monitor both the waterway and the port area. They provided full escort for the “Luyuan No.1” during its approach, employing electronic monitoring tools such as AIS and CCTV to maintain order in maritime transport operations.
