On October 21, a press briefing was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, to announce the upcoming 2024 International Engineering Conference, scheduled to take place from November 8 to 9 in Taizhou, Zhejiang. According to the briefing, over 50 international representatives from more than 30 countries and regions, as well as over 40 international and national engineering organizations, have confirmed their participation, ensuring representation from all five continents.
The conference is organized by the Federation of Engineering Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) and co-hosted by the Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology, the Taizhou Municipal Government, and Zhejiang University. The theme of the conference is “Engineering a Sustainable Future,” featuring one main session and three parallel sessions.
The opening ceremony on November 8 will include speeches from leaders, signing ceremonies for collaboration agreements involving significant international organizations, keynote addresses, and networking opportunities for businesses. Distinguished speakers will include Xia Zehan, Director of the UNESCO East Asia Office; Mustafa Shehu, President of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations; Angkaw Dwi Soebronto, President of FEIAP; Chen Chengchuan, the newly elected President of WFEO; Gong Ke, former President of Tianjin University and Nankai University; Kazawadi Papias Dedeki, President of the African Federation of Engineering Organizations; Alida Herrera, President of the Pan American Engineers Association; Jin Donghan, Vice Chairman of the China Engineers Union and President of Tianjin University; and Zhang Laibin, Director of the China Engineering Education Accreditation Association and former President of China University of Petroleum (Beijing). They will all focus their talks on themes relevant to the engineering field.
The three parallel sessions will address the development of engineering education, emerging technologies in engineering, and capacity building in the engineering sector, providing a platform for mutual learning and sharing. Additionally, the conference will host high-level dialogues on engineering education and the cultivation of outstanding engineers, as well as specialized discussions on standards for professional engineers in emerging technologies. The closing ceremony will see the release of the “Taizhou Declaration,” aimed at further promoting engineering innovation and cooperative success.
Notably, the 2024 International Engineering Conference is the inaugural event of its kind. It aims to enhance the overall level and quality of engineering education, foster innovation in engineering technology, support talent development, and participate in global science governance, all while contributing to the construction of a community with a shared future for humanity and the Global South. The success of this event comes from the collaborative efforts of the Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology, the Taizhou Municipal Government, and various international organizations, making Taizhou the host city for this significant international engineering summit.
