The white pheasant, classified as a second-class national protected animal, thrives in densely forested, evergreen broadleaf forests with sparse undergrowth. Qimen County, nestled in the southern Anhui mountains, boasts a forest coverage rate exceeding 88%. This rich ecosystem has become a sanctuary for various wild bird species, including the white pheasant, providing the perfect habitat for them to thrive and reproduce.
Turning our focus to another part of China, we discovered exciting wildlife activity captured by monitoring cameras in the Wangyang National Nature Reserve in Songpan County, Sichuan Province. On October 18, forestry and grassland bureau personnel announced the presence of giant pandas, Sichuan golden monkeys, and musk deer in the footage.
In one particular video, a robust adult giant panda emerged from the underbrush, investigating the roots of a large tree with multiple sniffs before retreating from the camera’s view. The panda’s distinctive appearance and weight suggested a healthy specimen, likely patrolling its territory.
Additionally, several clips showcased the agile Sichuan golden monkeys as they traversed the branches, jumping and hanging effortlessly from tree to tree. One heartwarming moment captured a mother monkey tenderly cradling her young offspring, who clung tightly to her.
The monitoring efforts also highlighted other wildlife, including the critically endangered musk deer, along with second-class protected species such as black bears and yellow-throated martens. These findings reflect a positive trend in wildlife population growth in the region, drawing attention to the importance of conservation efforts in preserving these precious habitats.
