As the MLB regular season approaches its final stretch, both the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves are fiercely competing for the National League Wild Card spots. Meanwhile, the San Diego Padres recently secured a Wild Card position by defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers.
On September 24, the Mets faced off against the Braves but fell short, losing 5-1 on the road, which narrowed the gap between the two teams. Currently, there are three Wild Card spots available in the National League. Besides the Padres, who have firmly clinched one position, the other two anticipated contenders are the Mets and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Later that evening in Houston, the Astros narrowly defeated the Seattle Mariners 4-3, ensuring their place as the American League West division champions and securing their playoff ticket.
This marks the Astros’ fourth consecutive season as division champions and their eighth straight season making it to the playoffs.
Over in Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers initially took the lead, but the visiting Padres turned the game around, ultimately winning 4-2. With this victory, the Padres improved their record to 91 wins and 66 losses, earning the first Wild Card spot in the National League.
