He Yicheng- The pace of deepening judicial reform cannot stop

On October 17, during the opening ceremony of the Macau SAR’s 2024-2025 judicial year held at the Macau Cultural Center, Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng emphasized the ongoing need to deepen judicial reforms in the region. He stated that the efforts to innovate the judicial system and mechanisms must not pause. His focus was on enhancing the operational efficiency of judicial institutions, improving the professionalism and ethical standards of judicial personnel, and rigorously addressing judicial corruption to ensure the quality of judicial work.

In his remarks, Ho Iat Seng highlighted the current government’s commitment to advancing judicial reform, refining the legal system, and strengthening public confidence in the law. He underscored the importance of listening to the voices of citizens who seek fairness and justice. Additionally, he stressed the need for judicial innovation and the adoption of new technologies to enhance judicial effectiveness, thereby driving continuous progress in the field.

Addressing the changing internal and external environment, Ho pointed out that both the rule of law and judicial workers must adapt to new challenges. He called for proactive responses to the demands of the current era and a willingness to embrace their historical responsibilities.

Furthermore, Ho Iat Seng reiterated that promoting moderate diversification of Macau’s economy is a top priority for the government. He noted that the increasing complexity and diversity of economic activities place higher demands on the professional skills and service levels of judicial institutions and legal practitioners. To support the development of the economy and society, there is a crucial need to enhance judicial capabilities, improve mechanisms for resolving diverse disputes, and optimize the legal business environment, thereby providing a stronger judicial guarantee for economic growth.
