On October 9th, Lin Qimao, the Deputy Inspector of the Transport Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, emphasized the region’s impressive coastline, deep-water ports, and abundant marine biological resources in a recent interview. He explained that Guangxi is moving forward with the development of a modern water transport logistics system, which he believes will serve as a strong foundation for fostering the local maritime economy.
That same day, the “New Maritime Corridor: Let’s Go See the Sea Together” promotional event was launched in Nanning. Organized by the Guangxi Transport Department and hosted by the Guangxi Port and Shipping Development Center, this full-media initiative aims to bring together representatives from media outlets, online influencers, and industry experts from across the nation to explore the Beibu Gulf ports of Qinzhou, Beihai, and Fangchenggang.
“We are dedicated to building the ‘New Maritime Corridor’ to enhance our level of openness and elevate our economic structure,” Lin stated during his address. “Our goal is to establish a new hub for the maritime economy, bringing fresh energy to Guangxi’s development.” He highlighted that the concept of “rising by the sea” marks a transformative approach to economic development in Guangxi, centered on the strategic implementation of the Western Land-Sea New Corridor. This initiative includes enhancing transportation infrastructure, optimizing network structures, and boosting transportation efficiency and service quality, all aimed at supporting the robust growth of Guangxi’s economy and society.
Currently, the Pinglu Canal, the backbone project of the Western Land-Sea New Corridor, has reached over 50% investment progress. The inland waterway in Guangxi now boasts a total navigable length of 5,868 kilometers, creating a crucial route for direct access to Hong Kong, Macau, and ASEAN countries. Additionally, the Beibu Gulf International Hub Port is rapidly advancing, with 76 container shipping routes connecting to over 200 ports in more than 100 countries and regions, placing the port’s cargo and container throughput among the top ten in the nation. The Beibu Gulf Port has emerged as the primary maritime hub for Southwest China.
Xie Dianwu, Secretary of the Party Committee and Executive Deputy Director of the Guangxi Port and Shipping Development Center, shared that the Guangxi port and shipping department will maintain its focus on core responsibilities. The goal is to expedite major water transport projects, build a seamless waterway network linking rivers to the sea, enhance the capabilities and influence of international hub ports, promote the development of a modern water transport logistics system, and ensure a robust safety framework, thus driving significant progress in Guangxi’s water transport sector.
As part of this event, participants will explore key areas like Qinzhou, Beihai, and Fangchenggang, visiting important sites such as the China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park, the Qinzhou railway hub, the Dalanping operation area, the Qinzhou automated terminal, Tieshan Port, Beihai passenger terminal, and the Yuxian Port area. Attendees will witness the dynamic growth of Guangxi’s “Blue Engine” and appreciate the grandeur of the Beibu Gulf Port.
