Foreign media- Netanyahu denies the accusation that the Israeli army deliberately targeted UNIFIL

On October 15, a report from Reuters highlighted that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu firmly denied allegations that the Israeli military intentionally targeted the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) during a press briefing on October 14, labeling those claims as “completely wrong.”

“When engaging with Hezbollah in Lebanon, our forces are making every effort to ensure the safety of UNIFIL personnel,” Netanyahu stated. He emphasized that the best course of action would be for UNIFIL to heed Israel’s requests and temporarily withdraw from the conflict zone to avoid any potential harm.

In response, UNIFIL spokesperson André Tenet took to social media to share a video message asserting, “We intend to stay. We are deployed in southern Lebanon under the authority of the Security Council.” He added, “Our troops have faced some deliberate attacks, and all parties are obliged to ensure the protection and safety of peacekeeping personnel.”

Earlier reports indicated that on October 13, UNIFIL claimed that Israeli tanks had destroyed the entrance gate to their compound and forcefully entered the premises. The Israeli military countered that their tanks were retreating from danger at the time and were not attacking the UNIFIL position.
