On October 24th, a delegation of foreign diplomats and business representatives from Hong Kong visited Weihai, organized by the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s Liaison Office in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Upon arriving via high-speed train, the group toured the headquarters of Weigao Group, the global printer base of Jabil, and Dishang Group, gaining insights into the city’s high-tech and industrial advancements.
At Weigao Group’s headquarters, the visitors explored its innovative medical devices and globalization strategies. They were particularly impressed by Weigao’s cutting-edge technology in the medical field. Chen Jiaxian, the Chief Representative of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council for North and Northeast China, shared his thoughts with reporters: “We witnessed Weigao’s technological innovations in medical equipment, especially in blood-related medical services. Their use of robotics and other high-tech solutions to enhance overall healthcare delivery significantly boosts the quality of medical services through technology.” He also highlighted Weigao’s collaborations with international companies like Philips, which have expanded its research and development achievements into global markets.
After visiting Weigao Group, the delegation moved on to Jabil’s global printer base to delve into the latest developments in 3D printing and digital printing technologies. Deloitte China’s Vice Chairman, Li Jiaen, commented on the state-of-the-art technology at Jabil’s facility, noting its exceptional production capabilities. He suggested that Weihai could learn from Qingdao’s experience by attracting more international professionals and Hong Kong talents to settle and work in the city.
Li further emphasized that Weihai should accelerate its cooperation with Hong Kong and other countries, particularly in the high-tech and manufacturing sectors. “Weihai’s industrial cluster model is extremely advantageous for promoting collaboration and competition among businesses,” he stated. “By incorporating more international elements, Weihai has the potential to become a significant hub for global innovation and manufacturing.”
Following their time at Jabil, the group visited Dishang Group, where they gained insights into its clothing design, production, and export operations. Dishang serves various well-known brands worldwide, including Zara and Max Mara, showcasing a robust capability that encompasses the entire process from design to production and sales.
The attention to detail in both design and material quality impressed the delegation. Abdullah, a representative from the Consulate General of Kuwait, remarked, “I really admire their designs, especially the suits. The quality of design and materials is outstanding, and the texture is excellent.” His visit provided him with a newfound appreciation for the innovation and quality present in China’s apparel industry.
