The strong growth in foreign trade has injected significant momentum into consumption in Dongxing, Guangxi. As a crucial hub in the China-Vietnam market, Dongxing is experiencing accelerated development driven by trade.
Walking across the Beilun River Bridge, you can see border residents bustling with daily necessities and goods for cross-border trade. Amid the frequent interactions and exchanges, Vietnamese coffee has become increasingly popular among Chinese consumers thanks to its unique flavor, presenting new opportunities for coffee trade between the two countries.
In the first nine months of this year, Dongxing imported 2,335 tons of coffee and coffee products, marking a 26.9% year-on-year increase, with a total value of 84.64 million yuan, a significant jump of 36.7%.
While Chinese consumers can’t get enough of Vietnamese coffee, China’s milk tea is also making waves in Dongxing. Its diverse flavors have quickly gained popularity among many Vietnamese tourists.
The exchange isn’t limited to just coffee and milk tea.
According to Qin Shiping, a local tour guide, the pedestrian streets in Dongxing are bustling, especially at night, when crowds pour in until the early hours. “It’s lively, with people shopping even at one or two in the morning.”
Statistics from the Dongxing Border Inspection Station show that over 6.2 million travelers crossed the border in the first three quarters of this year, averaging about 20,000 daily. This influx of visitors is directly stimulating the local consumer market. The demand for specialty food, hotel accommodations, and various services is steadily rising, creating more job opportunities for the community.
Meng Zhushi, a restaurant owner in Dongxing, shared, “Our sales have increased by over 30% compared to previous years. The crowds have brought more local customers as well. With the influx of tourists this summer, we’ve added twelve new staff members.”
