Armenian Parliament Speaker- Armenia has not yet made a decision on whether to participate in COP29

In a recent press briefing, Armenian Parliament Speaker Simonian addressed the ongoing discussions regarding Armenia’s participation in the upcoming 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku. As of now, no decision has been made.

“Our team is currently in talks about whether to attend COP29,” Simonian stated. “We need to evaluate the reasons for our participation, what we stand to gain, and at what level we would be represented.”

Scheduled for November this year in Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, COP29 has been the subject of invitations from Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Bayramov, who extended the invitation to Armenia.

Additionally, during a UN Security Council discussion themed “Leadership for Peace” in September, Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan suggested that Armenia and Azerbaijan consider signing a peace treaty before COP29, which he believes could foster a favorable environment for advancing the peace process.
