On October 17, local time, Kim Jong-un, the General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, conducted an inspection of the command post of the Korean People’s Army’s Second Army Corps, according to a report from the Korean Central News Agency. Following a briefing from the Corps commander, Kim checked the readiness of the troops on combat alert status.
During the inspection, Kim emphasized that the security environment faced by North Korea necessitates that the military enhance its capabilities to execute wartime operations and take further military measures to staunchly defend national security. He remarked on the impact that various aggressive military actions from the South Korea-U.S. alliance and other adversaries have on North Korean security, underscoring the importance and correctness of strengthening the nation’s nuclear deterrence.
Kim also highlighted the need for the North Korean military to acknowledge that South Korea is an adversary and a foreign country. He noted that North Korea has fully destroyed and severed the roads and railways connecting its territory with that of South Korea. This action signifies not only a physical isolation but also a disbanding of any notion of ethnic kinship and unification. Through this, North Korea has declared that any future aggression against its sovereignty by South Korea will meet with an unconstrained military response.
