During an interview, Yang Fuling, head of the Ikebana California branch in San Gabriel Valley, shared insights about their floral exhibition celebrating Double Tenth Day. The event took place on October 19th and 20th at the Los Angeles Chinese Cultural Center, showcasing over 40 stunning floral arrangements that radiate the beauty of autumn and express a deep love for the Republic of China.
On the morning of the 19th, the exhibition hall was filled with the fragrance of flowers as Ikebana instructors and students displayed their masterpieces. The arrangements were predominantly inspired by autumn, featuring yellow flowers like sunflowers, capturing the essence of the season.
Yang explained the philosophy behind Ikebana, which has been teaching floral artistry for centuries as a means of conveying humanity’s intrinsic values of truth, goodness, and beauty. As the oldest school of Japanese flower arranging with a history spanning over 565 years, Ikebana transcends mere artistic expression; it embodies a life philosophy that reflects the interaction and coexistence between humans and nature through the vitality and form of flowers.
Yang highlighted two special arrangements created for the Double Tenth Day celebration. One piece, titled “Together as One Across the Seas,” features a series of heart-shaped flowers aligned to symbolize unity among people, regardless of where they are located. The other arrangement, called “Festival Fireworks,” showcases plants of varying heights arranged to resemble fireworks lighting up the sky, symbolizing the celebration of the Republic of China’s birthday.
The floral exhibition is open to the public at the Los Angeles Chinese Cultural Center on October 19th and 20th, from 10 AM to 4 PM. Admission is free, inviting everyone to come and enjoy the captivating displays.
