On October 16th, the 2024 Chinese Language Debating World Cup Invitational Tournament kicked off in Sanya, Hainan Province.
With 24 participating teams, the tournament features prestigious institutions such as Tsinghua University and Peking University from mainland China, as well as The University of Hong Kong and The University of Macau from the Hong Kong and Macao regions. Internationally, teams from Harvard University in the United States, the London School of Economics in the UK, the University of Sydney in Australia, National University of Malaysia, and National University of Singapore are also competing. Over four days, these teams will engage in 31 thrilling debates that promise to be a showcase of intellectual prowess.
Following the opening ceremony, the first debate of the tournament commenced between Fudan University and Beijing Normal University. The topic for this heated exchange was “Should we view life as a blueprint or an adventure?”
The finals of the event are set to take place at the Sanya Sports Center, marking a significant milestone as it will be the first time a debate competition is held in a venue accommodating thousands. This event is organized under the guidance of the Sanya Municipal People’s Government, in collaboration with the Sanya Tourism and Culture Broadcasting Sports Bureau, the organizing committee of the Chinese Language Debating World Cup, and Beijing Xiqi Cultural Consulting Co., Ltd.
