During the National Day holiday, Shanxi highway traffic volume exceeded 12 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 14.11%

On October 8th, I had the opportunity to speak with a representative from the Shanxi Provincial Department of Transportation, who shared some impressive statistics about traffic during the National Day holiday in 2024.

According to the data released, highway traffic reached an astonishing 12.028 million vehicles, marking a significant increase of 14.11% compared to the previous year. The toll revenue also reflected this upward trend, totaling approximately 366.4 million yuan, which represents a 5.58% rise year-over-year.

When we discussed areas that experienced the highest traffic, the representative pointed out that the busiest toll stations were located near the ancient city of Pingyao and Mount Wutai. Additionally, various scenic spots witnessed a surge in bus traffic, especially during the first two days of the holiday at the Xi County North toll station, which is close to the Xiaoxitian scenic area.

In terms of public transportation, the province operated 44,780 buses during the holiday, serving around 1.0999 million passengers—a slight increase of 0.45% from last year. On the waterways, a total of 1,274 boats were in operation, carrying over 202,662 passengers, which marks an impressive surge of 308.34%.

The airport data was equally striking. Throughout the holiday period, there were 3,791 flight takeoffs and landings, up 5.9% from the previous year. Passenger volume reached 507,000, reflecting a growth of 14.7%, and cargo throughput experienced a significant increase of 35.8%, totaling 1,486 tons.

These figures indicate a strong recovery and growth in transportation services across Shanxi Province during the festive season, highlighting the region’s robust transportation infrastructure and increased travel activity.
