The “Zheng Jie Cup,” created by two-time Grand Slam champion Zheng Jie, is a prestigious national tennis competition designed for young athletes. Since its launch in Beijing in 2010, the tournament expanded nationally in 2015 and has solidified its status as a premier event for youth tennis in China.
This year has been a significant one for Chinese tennis, especially with the nation winning one gold and one silver medal at the Paris Olympics. As the domestic tennis season progresses, many Chinese players are achieving significant success. In a recent conversation, Zheng Jie expressed her enthusiasm about the rising popularity of tennis in China. She pointed out that numerous former competitors of the “Zheng Jie Cup” are now showcasing their skills at major events like the China Open. Zheng encouraged this year’s finalists to pursue broader opportunities as they continue their tennis journeys.
A total of 162 players registered for the finals, with the top 16 from each category qualifying through their regional performances. After two days of fierce competition, champions emerged: Du Yucheng took home the U8 boys’ title, while Hu Qingyu won the U8 girls’ championship. Huang Jiajun claimed the U10 boys’ crown, and Xiao Yunshu was victorious in the U10 girls’ division. Zhu Yuqiao triumphed in the U12 boys’ category, and Zhong Huangyang secured the win for the girls. Sun Hanzhi was crowned U14 boys’ champion, with Geng Shishuo taking the title for U14 girls.
With the 2024 “Zheng Jie Cup” now concluded, plans are underway for an elite training camp. Exceptional athletes selected from the finals will have the chance to attend the National Youth Tennis Elite Training Camp, in addition to participating in the Futian District tennis talent development program, which will be hosted in Shenzhen’s Futian and Zhuhai districts.
